The government has announced a ban on all types of fishing in the country's marine waters from May 20 for the next 65 days. The ban will remain in force until July 23. Iftekhar Hossain, public relations officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, gave this information on Thursday (May 11).
He said that like last year, fishing of any species by all types of fishing vessels will be prohibited in the marine waters of Bangladesh for a total of 65 days from May 20 to July 23.
Last year too, the government banned fishing in the sea for 65 days from May 20 to July 23. This ban is given for proper breeding, production, preservation of marine fisheries resources and sustainable fishing in the marine waters of the country.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock will implement this program in the coastal divisions and districts of the country. During the ban, the government will provide food assistance to registered fishermen through VGF.
